THE BEST DOG TRAINING TEAM IN Indianapolis

Ridgeside K9 Indy is a police-owned business. Our company brings realism to the pet dog training world that is unmatched in the industry. Ridgeside K9 believes there is no “one size fits all” approach to dog training. Each dog and owner are evaluated for issues and their personal goals. Every training package is customized to meet your goals and your dog’s training threshold. We use a mix of marker training, free shaping, and classical and operant conditioning to establish real-world, measurable, and reliable obedience and control. We always push for clarity of task and understanding, communication is the key to success. Showing both dog and owner a new way!

Kyle Schaefer

Owner & Dog Trainer

Kyle Schaefer is a seasoned law enforcement professional with over 25 years of service, including more than 18 years of experience working alongside a K9 partner. Throughout his distinguished career, Kyle developed a deep passion for dogs, honing his expertise in K9 handling, training, and operations. He played a pivotal role in training a multi-jurisdictional K9 training group, working with 25 K9 teams across various agencies. Additionally, Kyle co-founded the Central Indiana K9 Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting retired K9s, offering training resources for active K9 teams, and hopes of establishing a K9 memorial to honor those K9s who were killed in the line of duty.

As he transitions into retirement, Kyle is channeling his extensive knowledge and love for dogs into starting his own board-and-train dog training business. This new venture allows him to share his skills, helping dog owners build stronger bonds with their pets and ensuring their well-being through specialized training. Kyle’s commitment to K9s and his community continues to drive his passion for making a positive impact in the world of canine care and a better relationship with your furry family member.

Cheresa Burge

Dog Trainer

Cheresa with Ridgeside K9 Indy believes dog training is about more than obedience — it’s about unlocking potential, building trust, and strengthening the bond between dogs and their people. She first came to Ridgeside K9 Indy as a client, and the experience transformed her relationship with her own dogs. She even trained her dog, Kaitsja, as an emotional support companion, which deepened her passion for helping others do the same. Inspired by what she learned, Cheresa knew she wanted to become a trainer and share that knowledge with others. She is also currently training a dog for search and rescue (SARS), specializing in tracking. Certified in canine trauma response, CPR, and first aid, Cheresa always puts safety and care first. For her, this work isn’t just a passion — it’s a family mission — and she is dedicated to helping every dog become the best version of themselves.
